Feed the Streets, Feed the Homies is a project founded by young, Gambian American young women, Jankey Faye and Ruquaiya Monargent. They founded this project to help their houseless neighbors in the city they grew up in, Everett, Washington. “Feed the Homies Friday '' is a grassroots project which Faye and Monargent began in their own kitchen by cooking 50 hot meals for 50 people. Inspired by fasting and traditions of giving and goodwill, Faye and Monargent have continued to feed their houseless neighbors out of their own pockets each week since April 2022.

They aim to feed as many of their houseless community members, affectionately referred to as “the homies,” as they can every Friday with a home-cooked meal. They believe in the power and direct action of providing emergency hot meals to Seattle’s most vulnerable population. As Faye, a professional private chef by day explains, “Even a millionaire wants a home-cooked meal. A homemade meal is a privilege and a gift.”

Faye and Monargent are expanding their project and thinking about sustainability, community, and daily food distribution. With the community's help and support they believe that this is possible. They are both just 25-years-old, when asked why she is so committed to continuing this remarkable act of charity each month, Faye explains, “I was homeless too. I understand what it feels like to go hungry and I promised to always give back one day.”

Feed the Homies is the first project for Feed the Streets. Monargent explains, We are looking to expand by inviting like-minded people to come together in shared spaces and contribute their resources, donations, ideas and collaboration to help the growing unhoused population in our communities. If people can’t donate, we ask them to talk to their employers who might be able to make a donation of funding or materials.”

Together we can spread awareness and help rebuild for those in need.

IT’S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO SPREAD LOVE AND GIVE BACK .
